Menyanyi (Singing)

Here's a photo of the singing group. Their performance on the project night brought singing to another level.
Musicians at work.
Their first song performance, Pacarku Yang Cantik. They edited the lyrics for the song and made the song interesting.
They were singing their second song, Kamu Yang Pertama. Everyone was looking at the guy's back. I wonder what's behind.

They had the lyrics pasted on his back!! This got the crowd laughing!
Overall, their performance got the crowd high. A lot of effort was put in and they deserved our applause!
In addition, they also set up a blog to share their experiences, performances as well as some behind-the-scenes photos. Visit them at http://singinglab1201.blogspot.com/ and click here to view their performance!:Menyanyi

ANGKLUNG

The Angklung members were beautifully dressed in their traditional costume for their performance. As seen in this photo, they look all set and ready to wow the audience with their music!

But before that, they first gave a brief introduction of Angklung so that the audience can better understand and appreciate this traditional instrument

They played two traditional Indonesian folk songs. To speak the truth, it was so hard to believe that they only had about a month of practise! Their performance was close to perfection and a few of them even had to play more than one Angklung during the performance! -applauseeeee-

Alas, we thank them for the wonderful performance they have put up and and we hope that more people can learn about Angklung and continue this tradition!!

The overall cooking experience was enjoyable for the groups as it was not only their first time cooking Indonesian food, but also their first time cooking for such a large amount of food for their fellow hungry LAB1201 students. However, the first cooking session gave them confidence and ultimately handwork paid off and everyone managed to enjoy good food on the cultural night. Good job everyone!

MEMASAK 1 : LEMPER AYAM

Blogpost!

Memasak 1 : Lemper Ayam
Makanan Khas Indonesia
It is made up of sticky rice and chicken fillings and these area wrap around using banana leaves.

Lemper dibungkus dengan daun pisang.

Memasak 1 introduced to us… LEMPER AYAM! It was delicious! Probably the best dish at the Bahasa Night! There was a mixture of taste in this dish, a little sweet and spicy as well!

Here’s a little more information about this Indonesian delicacy!

This dish is basically made up of 3 main components, the rice, the chicken and the wrap.

The Chicken Meat!

The rice! (in the bowl)

The leaves!

Let me briefly explain to you the steps to making this dish!

  1. Soak the rice with cold water in a minimum of 8 hours
        2. Thereafter, we need to drain the rice and then steam it over hot water. For more Taste and frangrance to the rice, we stir it in coconut mi;k and salt

        3. Finally we put the rice back into the steamer and steam it for 20 minutes.!

This is how your rice should look like!

AYAM!

The chicken you ate that night was made from dada ayam (chicken breast) , minyak (peanut or corn oil) together with a mixture of a few spices such as ketumbar, bawang and kemiri (candle nut). The chicken was shredded first and then cooked, all the delicious spices were pounded together and finally stirred fried together along with the seasonings

SHRED THOSE CHICKEN!
Mix Them all!

Stir fry!

Lastly after both of these components are wrapped around using banana leaves! Sounds really simple and it taste really good too!

Hope you all enjoyed this dish as much as i did last friday! Do try it on your own when you are free! Lemper Ayam enak sekali!

Drama

The drama group had put up a good show on the project night. The plot was adopted and modified from an Indonesian folktale, the three brothers. The actors showed confidence and the acting was natural.

Nevertheless, there are two areas which the drama group could have done better. Firstly, the setting up of the scene was done using power point slides which I think is a convenient but not a very good idea. The group should have been aware of the limitations of the stage in the lecture theatre. For instance, the lighting is not designed to suit stage performance and there is no spot light. Thus, they have to keep the lights on at all time and the power point slides may not be seen clearly from the back of the lecture theatre. Since there is no back stage in the lecture theatre, there might be times when all the actors are on stage but not all of them are involved in the acting. By dividing the big stage into different sections, distinction between different scenes will be more obvious. Most importantly, the placement of the props can demarcate the boundaries of the scenes so that it will be clearer to the audiences on what is happening.

Secondly, the acting throughout was fine except during the point when the youngest brother was talking to his brothers. While he was speaking he turned towards his brothers such that his entire back face the audience. This is a major mistake and should be avoided at all time. It is because unlike drama on the television, there is no camera to close up on him so the audience will not be able to see his expression and his acting. Moreover, the actors did not wear a microphone, therefore, by back facing the audience, the voice is unable to be projected forward and the audience might not catch what he said.

However, I do understand that there are 5 members in the drama group and they are not professional actors. Given the amount of time allocated for rehearsal and practicing, they indeed have done a very good job.

Kostum Tradisional

The Kostum Tradisional group gave a very interesting and informative presentation during Proyek Night, where they took us on a thrilling journey around Indonesia. It's quite amazing how, even within one country, there can be so much variety and vibrancy in the culture!

In addition to what we learnt about the cultures of the various regions throughout Indonesia, we were treated to a spectacular visual display of the various traditional costumes of the different regions. Teman-teman kuliah cantik dan tampan sekali ya!
